If you are looking for a project management tool in the SaaS space, you are absolutely spoilt for choices

Along with CRMs, project management is perhaps the most crowded niche in SaaS. Therefore, if you are an early-stage project management SaaS company, your product really needs to be top-notch and unique if you want to gain traction.

There are a plethora of options across all the price points. Nifty is a slightly new project management tool that promises a lot by the looks of it.

Is it any good? How does it stack up against the overcrowded competition? Well, let's find out in this review.

Dashboard, Interface & Features

Once you are done with the initial sign-up, you have to define your Workspace name and the associated URL. If you want to chat with your team members within the app, you can enable the chat option and if not, just disable it.

Niftypm - Initial Sign up

You can later set up even a custom domain for the dashboard if you prefer it as it gives you better branding. It is available as an add-on for a small one-time charge.

Then, you can customize the look and feel of the app dashboard by selecting one of the three available themes. The three themes are Classic, Light, and Dark Mode.

Niftypm - Onboarding

Next up, you can import data including projects, users, tasks, files, etc. from other project management tools like Asana, Basecamp, ClickUp, Jira, Trello, And Wrike.

This is a huge time saver as chances are high that you are already using one of these tools and moving data manually can be a massive task. It is also possible to import from a spreadsheet.

Nifty - Data Import

Finally, you can invite your team members who are going to use Nifty with you by sending out an email or sharing an invite link.

Nifty - Onboarding step

Once the onboarding is complete, you are welcomed to the main dashboard which is pretty minimalistic and neat on the first look.

Nifty - Main Dashboard

The projects are organized under various portfolios. For example, you can have different portfolios in each department like Sales, Marketing, and Production and have many projects assigned under each of them.

Nifty - Portfolios

While inviting team members, you can either invite them to a whole portfolio where they will have access to all the projects in that portfolio or to a specific project where they will get access only to that project.

However, if you are inviting a member to the primary workspace, they will get access to all the portfolios and the projects.

There are four types of members within Nifty namely Owner, Admin, Member, and Guest. Each has different levels of access to the workspace. You can add your own custom roles with individual access levels for all the settings.

Nifty - Roles & Access Levels

Under the security settings of the Workspace, you can enable single sign-on and two-factor authentication if your organization needs it.

Nifty - Workspace Security Settings

Once you have completed all the workspace settings and invited your team members, you can then start with setting up new projects within each portfolio.

Within a portfolio, the first thing to do is to give a name to the project and define whether it is public to the whole workspace where everyone in the workspace can access it or Private, which will give access to only the members you manually invite to that project.

Nifty - New Project

You can have multiple options to choose from when it comes to the task view. These include,

  • Kanban,
  •  List,
  • Calendar,
  • Swimlane,
  • Timeline.

While setting up a new project, you can either start from scratch or select from a list of available templates to start. The templates include the below,

Nifty - Project Overview

In addition to the Desktop apps for Mac and Windows, iOS & Android mobile apps are available as well so that you can manage everything on the go and keep track of projects and tasks' progress at all times.

When it comes to Integrations, Nifty integrates natively with the likes of Harvest, Webex, Zoom, Slack, Github, Microsoft Suite, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Miro, Typeform, etc.

Nifty - Native Integrations

While it is not a huge list that should be improved upon, Zapier integration is available for you to connect with your account to hundreds of other third-party applications.

In addition to the Free plan, there are 4 paid plans in total ranging from $9 to $499 per member per month when paid monthly, while paying annually will give you a significant discount of 45%.

The highest plan is quite obviously for large companies and enterprises and for most cases, Starter, Pro, or Business plans will be the best value for money.

Nifty - Pricing

The main difference between the 3 plans is the total number of projects you can manage, and the storage space you get to host your files and documents.

The ability to set up custom roles and permissions is available only in the Business while you also get priority support.

Live chat support is available on the website and the help & support documentation is quite good as well covering all the important features of the product.

The official YouTube channel also has a lot of useful tutorial videos to help you get used to the platform and get the maximum out of it.

There is also a list of comparison documents comparing Nifty with various other major project management tools. If you are already using any other project management tool and considering shifting to Nifty, these documents will be very useful.

Best Alternatives

Although Nifty is quite a good project management tool as we have seen, there are a few better alternatives as well. We will have a look at a few.

If you are looking for a project management tool for sales and marketing teams, MarketPlan might be the perfect solution.

Apart from the regular project management and collaboration features, MarketPlan's USP is funnel mapping and tracking where you can plan and map out all your sales funnels within the platform.

As soon as your marketing campaigns are live, you can see their overall performance of it by tracking all the live data.

You can also completely customize the platform with white labeling and using a custom domain making it a perfect fit for agencies.

ClickUp has to be one of the most feature-rich project management tools in the market at a pretty affordable price.

It could be overwhelming initially for starters, but once you get the hang of the tool, it is extremely powerful and can replace multiple apps you might be currently using.

To wrap up, Nifty is a very compelling option when you are looking to start working with a project management tool for your business or organization.

The user interface is simplistic for anyone to get a hang of it quickly and the feature set is decent as well.

Yes, it is lacking some advanced features like form builder, surveys, powerful automation, etc., but for the majority of users, the available features are more than good enough.
